Murray-Darling river system is going to die

Australia's largest river system, the Murray-Darling rivers are threatened to die. There have been always droughts and floods, but in recent decades, floods have been very rare. The continuing use for irrigation along the rivers seem to be the death knell. Ironically, the driest continent on earth is growing cotton. Water rights sold to the cotton industry finally seems to wear the rivers out. It is a tragedy.

This photo was taken 2004. It shows the Darling River near Tilpa in New South Wales. Hard to believe that paddle steamers were once running up and down what is now merely a trickle
